America's Toughest Jobs is the type of reality show that comes about when networks have run out of ideas. There's nothing particularly wrong with America's Toughest Jobs, it just wasn't necessary. There's certainly more to like on America's Toughest Jobs than there is on the more shameless FOX or VH-1 reality shows. These are real people performing difficult tasks, tasks that they are not trained to execute. The problem lies in the premise: America's Toughest Jobs is from the producers of Ice Road Truckers and Deadliest Catch. But, network television will not suffer a reality show without some sort of flashy competition aspect, so the producers of a great show like Deadliest Catch, a show that gives an inside look at one of the grittiest and most dangerous jobs in America, are forced to shoe-horn a gimmick into their normal formula. What you end up with is a half-assed Deadliest Catch crossed with a half-assed Survivor.

NBC has come up with its newest fall reality offering, America’s Toughest Jobs, an “extreme competition series” that pits 13 men and women who dare to step outside the obscurity of their everyday lives to have a taste of some of the most dangerous and challenges jobs in the world.

Looks like television producer Thom Beers has got his hands tied up nowadays. He's got successful programs running on cable—Ice Road Truckers, Ax Men, the Emmy-nominated Deadliest Catch—and he's also got the premiere of the new NBC reality series, America's Toughest Jobs, to tend to. And now, he's heading up two new projects which we can expect to land in television screens, bookshelves, and even the big screens any time soon.
First, Beers' upcoming television project: 1000 Ways to Die. It was originally a two-part special aired in May on cable network Spike, but the success of the series led to the network ordering ten half-hour episodes of the factual series. The episodes are set to premiere this fall.

What do you get when you take 13 men and women with comfortable and humdrum jobs and have them do, as the name implies, one of America's Toughest Jobs? You get the new extreme competition series on NBC that will premiere on August 25 at 9 pm ET.
The challenges range from logging high in the Oregon forest to oil drilling on the Texas range and driving icy roads to extreme fishing. Whatever the job is, it requires guts and stamina, and is something not for the faint of heart. Each contestant on America's Toughest Jobs cannot dilly-dally as they have live up to the same standards as how the pros do it. In other words, they must appear like they have been doing the job forever, despite being new to it.
