Looks like we'll be seeing adults answer (or or flub) elementary questions outside of the auspices of Fox soon. Twentieth Television is expected to announce that the Fox game show Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? will be given a syndicated version, aimed at a fall 2009 premiere. This means than any local station can buy the program and show it within their own schedules, without relying on a network to give it to them.
Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? pits adult contestants against a series of questions taken from textbooks used by students from first to fifth grade. They play along with five fifth graders, one of which is chosen as a “classmate” for two questions. With a bit of luck, the contestants can win up to $1 million; otherwise, if they answer incorrectly or decide to leave the game, they'll take home the money they've earned but have to admit that they are not smarter than a 5th grader.

FOX is the most creative network around. You might hate some of the shows it produces (cough The Moment of Truth cough), but you have to give FOX props for the way it creates its schedule. If there is a new series the network is proud of, FOX promotes the hell out of it, and often premiere it after a veteran, highly rated series for good measure. Thanks to American Idol, FOX constructs two very distinct Fall and Winter/Spring seasons, dodging the inclination to air most of its big shows year-round. FOX has embraced the idea of airing its serial dramas with little or no breaks. Today, FOX released the schedule for their Fall premieres. There are a handful of two-hour premieres planned, including one for the most highly-anticipated new series of the Fall, the J.J. Abrams produced Fringe.

Cody is a fifth grader. This much is clear. Why, then, is Cody someone you might want to care about? Well, thanks to the FOX network, America is currently witnessing the era of Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader, the game show which tests the knowledge of adults against the common knowledge of a fifth grader. The premise is a good one, the lovable Jeff Foxworthy is the host, and who doesn't like to see everyday humans get outwitted by 11 year old mini-humans. The catch is this: we got the chance to interview Cody, one of the fifth graders on Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader, and he's a smart dude. Really smart. When I was in fifth grade, well, I don't really remember fifth grade all that well, and I'm not very old. But, I know this: if someone tried to interview me, I'd be shaking in my boots. Not Cody, though.
Below you will find the mp3 audio of the interview.
