'Battlestar Galactica' Star Joining UK Version of 'Law & Order'

Jamie BamberAs a huge fan of Battlestar Galactica, it may take time for me to accept some of my favorite actors in new roles now that the series has finished filming its final episodes.  Will it be strange to see Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck) scrub in and cause trouble during the next season of Nip/Tuck?  Will I keep wondering where Boomer is when I see Tahmoh Penikett (Helo) on Joss Whedon's new FOX series, Dollhouse?  One actor who Americans may not be seeing much of in the near future is Jamie Bamber (Apollo).  The British star recently revealed to Kristin at E!Online that he's signed up for a new version of Law & Order that will take place in his home country of the UK.

Though fans might expect Bamber's experience playing a lawyer to come in handy on the new series, he revealed to E!Online that he'll actually be on the "order" side of Law & Order.  "I'm doing a series in England called Law & Order: UK, and I'm being a cop," he said.  "And, yes, the show is London judiciary and London cops.  It's got the same premise as the original American Law & Order, same everything, just with a UK production company and UK actors.  My partner's going to be a British guy named Bradley Walsh."

For Battlestar Galactica fans who fear that Bamber might disappear across the pond forever, he also revealed that he still has plans to pursue projects in the US.  "I bought a house in Studio City just as the real estate market in this country crashed, so I will be a Californian forever, as my allotted dollar becomes rupees," he joked.  "No, truly, I love America. I'm treating Law & Order as a location job, and I'll split my year."

Bamber also commented on the hectic experience of shooting BSG's final episode.  "It was sort of too frenetic to be poignant, but there were many poignant moments along the way.  The last read through [of the script], there was not a dry eye in the house.  Many scenes along the way, characters leaving us.  It was momentous."  When asked if Apollo might kick the bucket before the end of the series, Bamber smiled and replied, "I can't possibly say. . .I'm not going to confirm or deny.  I'm a politician.  No comment."

Battlestar Galactica will return with its final episodes on the Sci Fi Channel in January 2009.  Law & Order: UK will start shooting in August and will air on ITV in the United Kingdom.  There's no word yet on whether it'll air anywhere in the US.
