Days of our Lives has been plagued with yet another behind-the-scenes drama. Amid reports that Ed Scott had been rewriting the show's storylines and dialogue without permission, the long-running soap has decided to let go off its co-executive producer.
The dismissal of Scott, who has been co-executive producer of
Days of our Lives since 2007, is said to be in the “best interest” of the show. Moreover, it also puts a close to several weeks of off-cam turmoil.
Serving as Scott's replacement is Gary Tomlin, the Emmy-winning former executive producer of ABC's
One Life to Live.
"I have decided that it's in the best interest of the show's future to make this change in order to improve
Days both visually and emotionally,” executive producer Ken Corday said in a statement. “We at
Days are grateful to Ed Scott for all of his contributions and amazing energy over the past year. Gary Tomlin brings a long successful history of being an actor's producer and a writer's producer to our cast and crew and I know the viewers will see the immediate results of this change for the better."
Tomlin began his career on daytime TV in 1973 when he was cast on NBC's
Search for Tomorrow as Bruce Carson. Gradually, he transitioned to the behind-the-scenes world, working as a director on
Passions and on
One Life to Live from 1992 to 1995, as well as executive producer from 2001 to 2003. He also held the role of head writer for
Sunset Beach and
Another World. Additionally, he served as co-head writer of
Days of our Lives from 1980 to 1981.
"I'm very happy to be back at
Days, where I began behind the scenes in the early '80s. It's wonderful to be given the opportunity to work with Ken Corday," Tomlin said in a statement.
