Seth Green and Breckin Meyer May Join 'Heroes'

Breckin Meyer, Seth GreenCan't Hardly Wait was only the beginning.  The seminal 1998 teen ensemble flick featured both Seth Green and Breckin Meyer, and since then the duo has appeared in a number of films together, including Rat Race and Josie and the Pussycats.  They've also worked together on the small screen, collaborating on Cartoon Network's Robot Chicken, which may be the best show on television featuring a cast of action figures.  The duo has done plenty of interesting work in the past, and now it looks like they might land their most popular roles to date.  Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello is reporting that Green and Meyer are nearing a deal to join the cast of Heroes for numerous episodes in season 3.

In what would be a perfect bit of casting, Green and Meyer are in talks to play Atlanta-based comic book geeks who cross paths with, and serve as important advisers to, one or more of the heroes.  The characters may end up with the names Doogie and Seth, which is an homage to the nerds on Doogie Howser M.D. and The O.C., respectively.  Too bad Neil Patrick Harris and Adam Brody aren't available.

I love the idea of these two hilarious actors joining the show, though it leaves me to wonder which Heroes regulars they'd be running into.  It seems like they'd hit it off with Hiro (Masi Oka) quite easily, but that might be too many goofy nerds for one plot line.  I'd rather see them team up with one of the more serious characters, such as Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) or Mohinder (Sendhil Ramamurthy).  Those two could certainly stand to lighten up a bit.

It's also interesting that the dynamic duo will be using their geeky knowledge to advise some of the main characters.  It seems like Heroes is hoping to create its own version of The Lone Gunmen, who were always there on The X-Files to help Mulder and Scully in a pinch.  If the actors do sign up for the show, I hope we can look forward to seeing them pop up to offer help for seasons to come.

It's still not confirmed if Green and Meyer will join the show, but we should find out sometime before Heroes returns on September 22.
