'Family Ties' Actor Joins 'The Young and the Restless'

the young and the restlessPresently on The Young and the Restless, Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) has been especially curious about his father, while his mother Gloria (Judith Chapman) has been tight-lipped about her shady past.  But that doesn't mean that fans won't be able to meet Michael's fugitive dad, who is expected turn up later this summer after all.

Soapnet has just announced that Michael Gross, who is most notable for playing fatherly figure Steven Keaton on Family Ties, will be joining The Young and the Restless to portray Lowell Baldwin, the long-lost father of Michael Baldwin.

If you're an avid fan of The Young and the Restless, you can expect that Gross' character is nothing like his ‘80s role.  So far, it has already been hinted on the show that Michael's dad was quite of a substance-abusing junkie, who is also wanted for his participation in a robbery that caused someone's death and who is presently going by the name of River.

Aside from Family Ties, Gross was also noted for his role as Burt Gummer in the Tremors movies and subsequent TV series.  His other TV credits included Boston Legal, How I Met Your Mother, Batman Beyond, ER and Night Court, where he guest starred as a sexual predator to Markie Post's character, Christine Sullivan.

Recently, Gross was cast in the comedy film An American in China, starring James Snyder, Anthony Montgomery and Sun Fei Fei.  He is also slated to appear in a string of projects such as 100 Million BC, the action adventure movie about a scientist who leads a team of soldiers back in time to the Cretaceous period, and Broken Windows, Tony Hickman's drama about four women and their dreams.  The former is expected to be released on July 29, while the latter is set to hit theaters in December.
