UFC 87 (Eighty-seven events? I feel old) has finalized its fight card.
UFC 87 will be held in the great state of Minnesota, at the Target Center in Minneapolis on August 9. The main event is a bout between current UFC Welterweight champion
Georges St. Pierre versus challenger Jon Fitch. This will be St. Pierre's first title defense since regaining the belt in April after defeating upstart
Matt Serra at
UFC 83. The other big fight involves Brock Lesnar, former amateur wrestler, WWE entertainer, and NFL wannabe. Now plying his trade in the UFC, Lesnar is huge man with lots of potential. He was originally scheduled to fight UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman, but Coleman had to withdraw because of an Achilles injury. Lesnar will now be fighting Heath Herring. Below is a full list of main card and preliminary card match-ups.
Main Card
Welterweight Championship bout/Main Event: Georges St. Pierre vs. Jon Fitch
Lightweight bout:
Kenny Florian vs. Roger Huerta
Heavyweight bout: Brock Lesnar vs. Heath Herring
Lightweight bout: Manny Gamburyan vs. Rob Emerson
Middleweight bout: Jason MacDonald vs. Demian Maia
Preliminary Card
Heavyweight bout: Cheick Kongo vs. Dan Evensen
Welterweight bout: Chris Wilson vs. Steve Bruno
Welterweight bout:
Ben Saunders vs. Ryan Thomas
Welterweight bout:
Luke Cummo vs. Tamdan McCrory
Light Heavyweight bout: Andre Gusmao vs. Jon Jones
Jon Fitch may not be a big name, but he should pose a challenge for St. Pierre. He's not an easy match-up for anyone. Pierre, however, has been on an incredible run. In his last seven fights, he's beaten the best of the best: Sean Sherk, B.J. Penn, Josh Koscheck, Matt Serra and
Matt Hughes twice. It would be a huge upset if he lost.
UFC 87: Seek and Destroy will air exclusively on pay-per-view on Saturday, August 9.
