Praise be the gods of television, for my favorite season of the year is nearly upon us! Fall TV premiere season is like Thanksgiving for me. And since this year's crop of new shows is so weak, I'm heavily depending on the returning shows to keep me occupied this fall.
There are so many returning shows I really enjoy that when I sat down to make my list of my five favorites, I just couldn't do it. I made my list, but ended up rewriting it over and over and over again. I even had Lipstick Jungle on several incarnations of the list because I watched all seven episodes of its pilot season last winter and found it really relatable and charming. It also didn't sit well with me that I couldn't include such gems as Supernatural or Boston Legal or the deliciously naughty Dirty Sexy Money. What is a TV fan to do? In the end, I made my decision by assessing how sad I would be if I suddenly couldn't watch TV again for the rest of my life, and which shows I would miss the most. Here are my five.

Two weeks from tonight, Gossip Girl will return to the CW to kick off its long-awaited sophomore season. When we last left the Upper East Side, everybody was in the process of hooking up with someone new. Nate and Serena were finally bonding again, Chuck and Blair were on the cusp of romance, and Dan and Vanessa were rekindling their friendship. The premiere of season 2, entitled "Summer, Kind of Wonderful," finds the gang stirring up trouble in the Hamptons, and fans might be shocked to discover who ends up with who.
To prepare for the new season, Kristin at E!Online unveiled four clips from the premiere episode. Check them out below.

Network: CW
Premiere: Monday, September 1, 8pm
Cast: Blake Lively, Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick, Jessica Szohr, Kelly Rutherford, Kristen Bell, Leighton Meester, Matthew Settle, Penn Badgley, Taylor Momsen
Previously on Gossip Girl: Serena and Dan broke up after Georgina meddled in their relationship. Serena spends the summer in the Hamptons with Nate, who broke up with Vanessa for no apparent reason. Blair and Chuck were supposed to spend the summer in Europe together, but each got sidetracked by other love interests. Jenny, after ceding the turf war to Blair, got a fashion design internship with Blair's mother for the summer. Lily and Rufus slept together, but that didn't stop Lily from marrying Bart Bass anyway.

When The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants rocked the faces off of theatergoers in 2005, only two of the four actresses involved were well-known for their work on hit television shows. Alexis Bledel was still playing Rory on Gilmore Girls at the time, and Amber Tamblyn had made a name for herself as the title character on Joan of Arcadia. When The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 hit theaters last week, the other two members of the foursome stole the spotlight. Blake Lively is now uber-famous for her work as Serena van der Woodsen on Gossip Girl, and America Ferrera is the one and only Ugly Betty.
Last week, Ferrera and Lively appeared on the morning show Good Day L.A. to talk about the film, but things quickly got derailed in favor of Gossip Girl dish. If the hilarious clip that was highlighted on The Soup is any indication, Ferrera may be tired of hearing about the CW series.

The CW execs can rest a little bit easier tonight, as it's now been proven without a doubt that teenagers adore Gossip Girl. The series may not pull in huge ratings, but at the annual Teen Choice Awards in Hollywood last night it was obvious that young people love watching the antics of the Upper East Siders. The series won six awards, including Choice TV Show Drama, Choice Breakout Show, and honors for cast members Blake Lively, Ed Westwick and Chace Crawford.
Gossip Girl won big on the TV side, while Juno picked up multiple surfboards in the film categories and the Jonas Brothers won just about every music award imaginable. Read on for the complete list of winners.

Nothing makes me happier than new Gossip Girl ads. Despite what the CW wants us to believe, it's not the most popular show on television, but it certainly has the greatest ad campaigns. Last season brought us the infamous OMFG commercials, and last week the network unveiled a racy set of posters that I wrote about here. Now there are new commercials to go along with the posters, focusing on the show's hook-ups and featuring blurbs from critics warning viewers that the series is "a nasty piece of work" and "very bad for you." Are these clips brilliant or trashy? You be the judge.
