The Amazing Race

Summary

How would you like to race around the world for a million dollars? With your roommate, cousin, or ex-spouse maybe? That's the idea behind The Amazing Race, CBS's hit reality show in which twelve teams of two compete in a global footrace so wild it would make Jules Verne's head spin. Along the way the teams must manage rocky mountains, spooky shipwrecks, and strange foreign cultures (not to mention each other) before one team crosses the finish line and walks away with the million dollar prize.

The Amazing Race 13: Meet the Cast

August 19, 2008

The Amazing Race returns to the air with its thirteenth season on Sunday, September 28.  Now, we have something tangible to look forward to.  CBS has released the names and identities of the eleven teams who will be competing on The Amazing Race 13.  Among the new faces are an ex-NFL player, a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, two fraternity brothers, and two older hippies.  You can find a little snippet of information about each of the teams below, plus a picture that will allow you to prematurely and superficially judge everyone.  That's my favorite part of the weeks leading up to The Amazing Race's premiere.

CBS Green Lights 'The Amazing Race 13'

The Amazing RaceMeet the cast of The Amazing Race 13.

When CBS renewed The Amazing Race for a 13th season, I breathed a sigh of relief.  There has seemingly always been uncertainty regarding the future of The Amazing Race, and fans constantly worry that the series is on the verge of cancellation.  The series' 12th season was originally intended to air in early 2008, but when Viva Laughlin stunk up the joint, CBS quickly plugged Race into their Sunday at 8pm time slot.  The series averaged around 12 million viewers for season 12, in large part thanks to its NFL football lead-in.

Now that the cast for The Amazing Race 13 has been announced, it looks like the new season will have the same mixture of clashing personalities that previous years had.  Check out the new teams here.

'The Amazing Race 13' Premieres Sept. 13

August 19, 2008

Meet the Cast of The Amazing Race 13.

The Amazing Race
is back!  Well, on September 13 it is.  Nonetheless, the critically acclaimed reality series is set to return next month from its longest hiatus ever.  The Amazing Race had a bizarre 2007-2008 season.  It was kept off the Fall schedule, and was initially to be used as a stop gap for the impending writers' strike.  It was set to air in the Winter, but when Viva Laughlin went all Viva Laughlin on the world and had to be mercifully canceled after one episode, The Amazing Race stepped in in the Fall.  As a result, the season ran its course, and with no additional season in production, the usual Spring edition of The Amazing Race was absent.

It's been a long wait for the new season, but the excitement is truly heating up now that the cast for season 13 has been announced.  You can get details on all the new teams here.

Do Senior Citizens Stand a Chance on 'The Amazing Race'?

August 6, 2008

Kate & PatIt seems that nearly every season of The Amazing Race has some adorable elderly couple that you can't help but root for.  Last season had lesbian ministers Kate and Pat, season 9 brought us Fran and Barry, and season 7 had Meredith and Gretchen, just to list a few examples.  One of the great things about The Amazing Race is that people of any age can compete, but let's face it: The old folks never stand a chance.  Though some of them have made it into the top five, an elderly couple has never won the competition.  When creator Bertram Van Munster recently announced that the upcoming thirteenth edition of the reality series would feature a married hippie couple in their 60s, I had to wonder if there's any point to having them on the show.
