Yesterday, I emphatically said that I wasn’t going to watch the Heroes “Villains” finale, having gone cold turkey on the show after what I saw as some major problems with the storylines (especially all the time-travel) this fall.
Well, I relapsed. I watched the episode. Partly because I needed to write this Aftergasm, but mostly because, as a true Heroes fan, despite my misgivings, I know that a Heroes finale has the potential to hold many surprises, and I hoped they would be good ones.

Previously on Heroes: The villains united at Pinehearst under Arthur Petrelli, only to start killing each other at an alarming rate. Sylar killed Arthur, but not before the Petrelli patriarch retrieved the Catalyst and injected a soldier with super strength.
Now it's time to end volume 3, a series that started so promising with Angela taking control of the Company, and quickly devolved as great villains like Adam, Maury and Elle were killed off. Will the finale set up a possibly exciting volume 4?

Tonight, the third volume of Heroes, “Villains,” comes to an end. As a devoted viewer since the beginning of the series, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance and so many characters about to face off in a deadly “Duel,” you'd think that I would be watching the clock all day, willing it to turn to 9 o'clock and put me out of my gleeful anxiety. In the throws of season finale-anticipation, the dedicated fan should be like a drug addict without her next fix. But here's the truth: I have no intention of watching tonight's finale. Not tonight, and maybe not ever.
Last week, I held an intervention with myself, and gave up Heroes cold turkey. Today, when my cravings should be at their most urgent, all I feel is relief. That special, sad sort of relief you feel when you cut your losses—better to have loved and lost, than to have let that love grow into a full-grown disgust for what your beloved has become.

It's Good versus Evil in the final episode of Heroes of 2008.

Sylar is getting a new dad on Heroes. Now that we know Arthur Petrelli has lying about fathering the psychopath, TV Guide confirms that in the next volume, former Smallville star John Glover will show up to play Sylar's real father.
Glover, of course, is no stranger to playing the father's of villains, as he spent six years on Smallville as Lionel Luthor, Lex's father. Lionel was eventually killed by his son, an ominous event that could easily be revisited with Heroes.

The third volume of Heroes has been picked apart by both viewers and critics, but things have been looking up in the past couple episodes. The heartbreaking final moments between Hiro and his mother in Monday's installment were some of the most touching in the series history, and things are bound to get even better when Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller returns to the show later this season. Heroes may not be pulling in the massive ratings it once did, but it looks to be clawing its way out of the creative doldrums.
Next Monday, Heroes wraps up its "Villains" arc with a finale that's sure to leave fans breathless until volume 4 starts in February. To get viewers ready for the show's mid-season blowout, we have an exciting clip and promo from the episode.

Heroes continues to keep us guessing with its twisty, turny plot and characters who keep changing sides from villain to hero and then back again.
The good folks over at NBC and Sprint have come together to develop the Heroes: Destiny web series to keep us entertained all the time, and we're teaming up with them for a great BuddyTV giveaway. Read on for details on how you can win a copy of seasons 1 or 2 (or both!) of Heroes.

Today, I choose to focus on the greatness of last night's episode of Heroes. Oh sure, I could write about how Arthur's sudden and seemingly haphazard death was woefully anticlimactic and negated the entire season's worth of build-up to make him the leader of the villains. Or I could write about how once again, when an epic battle between good and evil is brewing, Hiro is stuck, powerless, far, far away.
But instead, it's worth pointing out that last night's Heroes was better than this show has been in a long time, and it was all thanks to Masi Oka. Hiro's storyline was relevant to the overall arc while also giving viewers some genuine emotion. It was the kind of writing and acting that proves Heroes is still capable of being a great show.
